Designing Cardiorespiratory Exercise Programs

Access to on-demand products expires on the last day of the calendar year.  They must be viewed/completed within the calendar year in which they are purchased.

Cardiorespiratory exercise is one of the most important tools available to healthcare, rehabilitation, fitness, and performance professionals for improving health, reducing disease risk, and enhancing physical capacity. However, an effective cardiovascular program requires more than simply telling a client to “do more cardio.” Exercise prescription must be individualized according to the client’s current fitness level, health status, goals, and ability to adapt to training.

Designing Cardiorespiratory Exercise Programs provides a practical approach to developing safe, effective, and individualized cardiovascular exercise prescriptions. Participants will learn how to apply the FITT-VP principles of frequency, intensity, time, type, volume, and progression while using measures such as heart-rate reserve, VO₂ reserve, METs, and perceived exertion to establish appropriate exercise intensity.

The course also examines the relationship between physical inactivity and chronic disease and demonstrates how cardiorespiratory exercise can be appropriately prescribed and progressed for health, fitness, and individuals with conditions such as hypertension and other cardiometabolic risk factors. The goal is to provide attendees with information they can immediately apply when designing individualized cardiovascular exercise programs.
