Successful rehabilitation following cervical and lumbar spine surgery requires much more than simply waiting for tissues to heal. Clinicians must understand the biological phases of healing while determining when and how to safely restore mobility, stability, muscular endurance, strength, and ultimately functional activity.

In this practical one-hour webinar, Dr. Thomas J. Solecki presents a progressive approach to post-surgical cervical and lumbar rehabilitation based on tissue healing, tissue tolerability, movement impairment, and functional capacity. Participants will learn how rehabilitation progresses from the early protective phase through corrective exercise, spinal stabilization, cardiovascular conditioning, progressive resistance exercise, and return to functional and sport-specific activities.

The cervical portion progresses from protection and patient education through upper-extremity mobility, postural restoration, deep neck flexor and scapular stabilization, thoracic mobility, McGill-based trunk stabilization, progressive resistance exercise, and eventual return to pre-surgical strength and activity.

The lumbar portion emphasizes protection of the surgical site, neutral-spine mechanics, hip hinging, progressive walking, abdominal bracing, dynamic stabilization, strength endurance, progressive resistance exercise, and eventual transition to loaded functional and sport-specific movements.
